ELOPEMENTS

Is your dream wedding one where you and your other half head off on the adventure of a lifetime, just the two of you? No other country in the world has a stronger association with the concept of elopement. The history of fleeing here to tie the knot stems back to the mid-1700s, when English laws prohibited marriage without parental consent under the age of 21 years. Couples would cross into Scotland where the laws were more lenient, often marrying at Gretna Green, just over the border.

The modern trend in elopements is not constrained to the Scottish borders though. There are very few constraints on where you can hold a marriage ceremony in Scotland, so nowadays many couples choose the dramatic landscapes of the Highlands or Argyll. The team at White Heather can help guide you to the most stunning and lesser-known beauty spots and places to stay that will make your adventure totally unique and totally unforgettable. We also know the celebrants, photographers and musicians best suited to this beautiful style of wedding.
